Photos and job information
Work Cam uses your camera to take job photos. It processes photos on your
device, including orientation correction and the Free-version watermark,
and saves JPEG files in shared DCIM/WorkCam/<Job> folders. It reads job
folder names, photo filenames, and file dates to list jobs and determine
the next sequential filename. Job names may contain information you enter.
Choose names appropriate for storage in your device's shared photo area.
You can also explicitly share PNG, JPEG or WebP images, including screenshots, from other apps to Work Cam. It reads only the images shared with it, temporarily stages them in its private cache, and saves unchanged copies into the job you choose. Work Cam copies the image data it receives without re-encoding, camera watermark or orientation processing. Android or the sharing app may have already changed the shared image or its metadata. Shared originals are not moved, modified or deleted. Importing does not require camera permission and does not enable screen recording or automatic screenshot monitoring. On Android 10+, it uses access to explicitly shared images instead of whole-gallery permission. Android 7-9 still requires the legacy storage permissions described below. Saved imports use the same Free image/job allowance as camera captures.
Work Cam does not operate a photo-upload, cloud-photo-storage, advertising, or Work Cam account service. The app does not request location or microphone permission. It does not add location information to captured photos.
Permissions and local settings
Camera permission enables capture. Denying it prevents capture.
On Android 10 (API 29) and newer, fresh capture requires camera permission,
not broad photo-library access. Work Cam saves its new photos through Android's
MediaStore into DCIM/WorkCam/<Job>. It does not request READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
or access to your entire gallery on these Android versions.
To access existing jobs, use Jobs > Connect existing jobs and select one
job folder directly inside primary shared storage DCIM/WorkCam, or select
DCIM/WorkCam itself to connect all jobs. The app does not accept the whole
DCIM directory, deeper nested folders, or another storage volume. The folder
grant gives Work Cam read and write access only to the selected directory and
its children, not to your entire gallery or unrelated folders. This allows it
to read filenames and dates and resume the selected jobs' filename sequences.
Deleting whole job directories requires connecting their parent DCIM/WorkCam
folder and confirming the selected jobs. Connecting does not move, copy, or
migrate files.
The app persists the folder grant across restarts. You must reconnect after reinstalling Work Cam, revoking the grant, or moving the folder; access is not automatically restored. Canceling the picker or choosing the wrong folder does not grant access to existing jobs. Fresh capture does not require this existing- job folder grant. App-created job names and the selected job are retained across normal app restarts. The local-created-job catalog is excluded from backup and device transfer so it cannot substitute for access on a new installation. You can manage camera and folder access through Android's permission and storage-access controls.
On Android 7 through 9 (API 24-28), Work Cam still uses legacy shared-storage read and write permissions for job photos. The newer folder-scoped access design does not remove those legacy permissions on these Android versions.
App preferences store selected job information, capture/job allowance counters, camera settings, and a cached Pro entitlement. Temporary image files are used while saving photos. The app attempts to remove these temporary files after processing, but an interrupted process may leave cache files until Android or the app removes them.
Google Play purchases and diagnostics
The optional one-time Pro upgrade uses Google Play Billing. Work Cam connects to Google Play when the app starts to obtain product information and restore purchases, as well as when you request a purchase. Work Cam receives purchase status and purchase tokens and uses Google Play to acknowledge purchases. Work Cam does not receive your payment card details.
Google Play processes purchases and maintains its purchase records. Its Billing library sends technical billing diagnostics and app/device configuration information to Google for billing reliability, error support, and library improvement. These diagnostics can include API results and service-connection events, and a random BillingClient session identifier that groups related diagnostic events. Billing initializes on launch; Work Cam does not provide a separate diagnostic-logging opt-out. This is separate from job photos, which Work Cam does not upload. Google handles information within its services under the Google Privacy Policy. See Google Play Help for purchase, refund, account, and privacy controls. Work Cam does not maintain a separate developer-operated purchase or analytics database.
Other apps, device backups, and sharing
Photos are in shared device storage, not an encrypted Work Cam vault. Other apps with permission can access them. Opening a job folder uses an external file or photo app. If you enable a photo-sync service or device backup, your photos or app preferences may be backed up by that service according to its settings and policies. This is separate from a Work Cam-operated upload service.
We do not sell your photos or job information. We do not include an advertising SDK or a separate developer analytics/crash-reporting service. Google Play's purchase processing and technical logging described above are separate from local photo processing.
Retention and deletion
Saved job photos remain until you delete them using Work Cam or another file or photo app. They may remain after Work Cam is uninstalled. Deleting a job does not delete copies in other apps, shared destinations, backups, or cloud photo services. Manage those copies through the corresponding service.
App preferences remain until app data is cleared or the app is uninstalled, subject to Android's backup/restore settings. Deleting photos does not reset the Free capture allowance. Clearing local data does not erase Google Play purchase records; restoration can restore Pro. Google's retention and deletion controls apply to information held in its services.
If you email support, we receive the address, message, and attachments you choose to send. Do not send sensitive job photos unless needed for your request. We use support messages to respond and troubleshoot, and keep them while needed for that request or legal obligations. You can request deletion of support correspondence at the contact address above. We cannot remotely retrieve or delete photos stored only on your device.
Security
Work Cam relies on Android's application and permission controls for local data and on Google Play for checkout. Protect your device and review which apps and backup services can access shared photos. No storage or communication system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Policy changes
We will publish changes on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes to how the app handles data will also be reflected in the app or its Google Play disclosures as appropriate.
